KCC Seeking Applicants for Lunalilo Scholars Program

Kapiolani Community College is currently accepting applications for the King William Charles Lunalilo Scholars Program. Each scholar receives 100% tuition and fees, books, supplies and a UPass to attend Kapi’olani Community College for the 2015-2016 academic year. Through scholarship, community, and academic and personal support, the Lunalilo Scholars build a solid foundation for success in the first year of college.

This is a unique program whose mission is to provide opportunities for transformative college experiences for students who have not considered higher education as a viable alternative because of financial or other barriers limiting college access. Previous scholars have ranged in age from 18 to 53 and came from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Applicants can complete an online application or submit a paper application. Each applicant, must have a Referral, such as a coach, teacher, counselor, or advisor, that can attest to the challenges the applicant faces that make coming to college difficult. Applicants do NOT have to be accepted to Kapiolani to apply for this program.

Paper applications and referral forms must be postmarked by May 16, 2015 to be considered. Online applications and referral forms can be submitted until 11:59pm on May 16, 2015. You can find them on KCC’s website: http://fye.kapiolani.hawaii.edu/lunalilo-scholars-2/

Teen Health Camp at WCC on May 2

Join Nā Pua Noʻeau for a day of exploration and discovery for students in Grades 6-12. Nā Pua No‘eau, along with the Health Careers Opportunity Program, Windward Community College and, the Native Hawaiian Center of
Excellence at JABSOM, will be hosting “Teen Health Camp”. Teen Health Camp is a 1-day camp that will get
you EXCITED about the many possibilities within the field of HEALTH CARE as well as teach you how to
live a healthier lifestyle. Learn from medical students,  health professionals, and community organizations what
you need to know.

Attached is the program brochure (page 1) and (page 2), as well as the registration form.  Applications must be received by Nā Pua Noʻeau by April 27.

Scholarship for Students Pursuing Video Game Arts Degree

Yes, there’s finally a scholarship out there for video game fanatics.  If you are a woman OR a minority student (Hawaiians, you are a minority), who can’t get enough of those video games and plans to major in a program that will lead to a degree in Computers & Video Game Arts, you definitely need to check out this scholarship.

The ESA Foundation offers scholarships for full-time undergraduate study at accredited four-year colleges and universities in the USA. Up to 30 scholarships of $3,000 each will be awarded annually, 15 to graduating high school seniors and 15 to current college students.

Eia Summer Bridge Program for Incoming UH Mānoa Students

If you are a high school senior who will be entering the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa this Fall, this is an IMPORTANT message for YOU!

The Eia Mānoa Summer Bridge Program is designed for new incoming freshmen to UH Mānoa in Fall 2015. Itʻs an all-expense paid 6-week (July 6-August 14) optional residential program that includes a free course and opportunity for students to meet 50 other incoming Native Hawaiian freshmen.

Time to Mālama Mauna’ala on May 16!

It’s time again to mālama the final resting place of our aliʻi at Maunaʻala.  This is a wonderful opportunity for Scholars and their ʻohana to volunteer together, meet new people, and give back to our Hawaiian community.  For more information, please see the attached flyer.

Hawai’i High School Auto Academy

The Hawaiʻi High School Auto Academy targets high school students interested in the automotive industry in which they participate in an unpaid internship at a Cutter dealership in the mornings, then attend classes at Honolulu CC in the afternoon, five days a week for six weeks to total 120 classroom hours. Upon successful completion of the program the students will receive four college credits towards an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Automotive Technology.

Details

  • Six week summer automotive experience for Juniors and Seniors.
  • Intern at a Cutter Dealership and learn theory at Honolulu Community College.
  • Receive 4 college credits towards an Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology.

Deadline to Apply: Monday, March 30, 2015

How to Apply

  • Completed Application
  • Driver’s License required by June 15, 2015.
  • Interview will be scheduled.
  • Health Clearances (MMR & TB required)

Program Timeline

  • Parent Night – June 10, 2015
  • Program runs five days a week from June 15, 2015 to July 22, 2015.
  • AM internship with a Cutter Dealership
  • PM class work at Honolulu Community College
  • Completion Ceremony – July 23, 2015
