Kamehameha Schools (KS) is dedicated to serving Hawaiian learners through a variety of educational programs. Hālau Kupukupu Innovations Academy offers incredible educational opportunities that ignite passion for learning and empower haumāna to thrive and contribute to the vibrancy of their ʻāina, ʻohana, lāhui, and world. Kupukupu means “to sprout or grow” as leaves, blossoms, knowledge, and ideas. With ‘āina as the center of dynamic, rigorous, and engaging inquiries blending STEAM, literacy pieces, and creative exploration, our keiki and ʻōpio will grow their skills as innovators and stewards of today and beyond.
Hālau Kupukupu Innovations Academy is a dedicated space within Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi for testing, advancing, and accelerating 21st century ʻōiwi teaching and learning and environments. The summer academy offers credit advancement for high school students seeking to earn required and/or elective credit(s) for the 2018-2019 school year.
Kamehameha Schools’ policy on admission is to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.

Hālau Kupukupu Innovations Academy is open to students entering grades 1 through 12 in Fall 2018 and incoming kindergarteners who are 5 years of age by July 31, 2018.
GENERAL INFORMATION Kamehameha Schools’ Hawai‘i Hālau Kupukupu Innovations Academy will be held from:
Thursday, June 14, 2018 – Thursday, July 12, 2018 (4 Week Program)
Elementary School 8:00 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Middle School 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
High School 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday, July 4 is a holiday.

Financial Aid is available. Applicants who demonstrate financial need may receive full awards to cover tuition and transportation fees. Be sure to complete the financial aid section of the Summer School application when you apply online.
Tuition and Transportation: The cost for tuition varies by division. Transportation is also provided for an additional fee. Please refer to the table below for applicable charges.
Space Availability: Spaces will be filled based on the date your application is received and course availability. Enrollment is subject to availability of classes. Kamehameha Schools reserves the right to cancel any class if enrollment falls below the minimum required.
Attendance Policy: Daily attendance is critical if students are to master course materials. Absences due to family trips and vacations, games and/or athletic tournaments are discouraged and students who are unable to commit to the full summer program should not apply. See the course catalog for specific information.
Explorations Series Program Applicants: Students planning to apply to both an Explorations Series program and Hālau Kupukupu Innovations Academy are recommended to request attendance to Explorations Series programs offered during Week 6 (7/15 – 7/20/2018).
NOTE: Students in grade 6-8 may not be absent for more than three (3) days and students in grades 9-12 may not be absent for more than one (1) day. (Please review Attendance Policy)
Payment: Do not send payment with the application. You will be advised of the total amount due in your program invite letter. FULL payment must be received by May 14, 2018 in order for final enrollment to be confirmed.
Refunds and Course Withdrawals: Once a space has been reserved for a student and paperwork has been processed, refunds will be made according to the following schedule:
Through May 31, 2018. . . . . . . . . . . Full refund

Notification Letters: Letters will be mailed out in April.
Enrollment Packet: Class schedules and T-shirts will be available (for families) on June 6 – 7, 2018.
