Through fun and engaging instruction haumāna (students) will build their collaboration, communication, and literacy skills with their classmates. The haumāna will learn about aloha ‘āina, and strengthen their Native Hawaiian identity through cultural place-based education. This four to five week experience ends in a hōʻike (celebration) where the keiki share their ‘ike (knowledge) of Hawai‘i with their ʻohana and other attendees.
Entering Grades 6, 7 and 8
Kilohana is a program designed to connect haumāna to their Hawaiian identity in a modern world. Through cultural experiences, inquiry and project-based learning, students develop their skills in math, deepen their connection to Hawaiian culture, and develop leadership and 21st century skills while strengthening their connection to their community. A 5 week summer day program kicks off program offerings (i.e. intersession and ‘ohana events) held throughout the schools year. Kilohana serves public, charter, home and other private school students residing in the region who will be entering grades 6-8.
